01 / Product Overview
What AllyNerds builds
AllyNerds is a career-preparation platform for people pursuing specific jobs, rather than generic job-search advice. Candidates often have to move between job boards, their resume, company research, and interview-practice tools without a clear view of how these pieces connect. AllyNerds brings job discovery, role-fit analysis, company and role research, interview practice, and feedback into a more connected preparation workflow.
The broader AllyNerds work also includes mentorship, cohort programs, and a campus ambassador program. These support learning, guidance, and community alongside the digital product.
Discover and assess fit
Help candidates explore relevant opportunities, compare a role with their experience, review resume alignment, and identify skills to develop before investing time in an application. Product areas include Job Recommendations, FitFactor, ResumeIQ, GapBridge, and Quick Test.
Research the opportunity
Bring together information about a target company, role, and likely interview expectations so candidates can prepare for the opportunity in front of them. Research should be presented with its sources and uncertainty—not described as guaranteed or “verified” when that has not been established.
Practice and improve
Support role-specific interview practice, follow-up questions, feedback, and repeated preparation across interview rounds. The aim is to help candidates identify weak answers and improve them, not to claim the system reproduces a real company’s interview panel.

03 / Systems & Engineering
Engineering across the product
My responsibility at AllyNerds expanded from building AI capabilities to leading engineering across the web product. I have worked across user-facing workflows, backend services, data, AI integrations, AWS infrastructure, deployment, testing, monitoring, and production issues. As Engineering Manager, I also lead a five-person team and work with the Founder and CEO to connect product priorities with engineering execution.
The central challenge was not simply selecting an LLM or designing an interview simulation. It was deciding what would make the preparation journey useful, building the different parts to work together, and balancing delivery speed with reliability, security, performance, and cost.
Product architecture and delivery
Led technical planning across frontend, backend, APIs, databases, and AI capabilities. Turned product requirements and user feedback into scoped work, implementation decisions, testing, and releases.
AI and data capabilities
Worked on LLM applications, RAG pipelines, agent workflows, and integrations that support research, preparation, and other product experiences. Evaluated where AI adds value and where source quality, latency, cost, and failure handling need attention.
Cloud and production operations
Worked with Docker and AWS services including EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, and EventBridge, alongside CI/CD, monitoring, security, and performance testing.
People and business decisions
Led a five-person engineering team with direct reports, contributed to hiring and performance management, and coordinated with product and growth priorities. Worked with leadership to decide what to build, what to improve, and which engineering trade-offs were appropriate for the business.
Technology Line
04 / Engineering Trade-offs
Pragmatic Architectural Trade-Offs & Learnings
Scaling AllyNerds from an MVP to a robust platform required making concrete trade-offs between user experience, response latency, and operational cost.
Streaming Latency vs. Evaluator Rigor
Generating multi-persona feedback in a single synchronous call caused response delays. We split the pipeline: responsive streaming handles immediate conversational turns, while background workers compute structured rubrics and comprehensive candidate feedback asynchronously.
Multi-Provider Failover Architecture
Frontier model APIs frequently encounter transient rate limits and latency spikes. We instituted automated fallback routing across providers with adaptive retry budgets, ensuring candidate interview sessions never abruptly terminate.
